Medical Special Needs

The Medical Special Needs Registry allows Ascension Parish residents with medical needs an opportunity to provide information to our team so we can communicate emergency preparedness, response and recovery resources to our vulnerable at-risk residents in our parish. This registry is a list of residents who have a special medical need that makes it harder to respond during an emergency.  

Contact our Citizens Service Center team to be added to the registry of residents. Simply call: 225-450-1200 during normal business hours, and we will be happy to register you.  

Enrolling in the Medical Special Needs Registry should never be considered as the only action necessary to prepare for disasters, nor does it ensure prompt and thorough response after disaster strikes. The Medical Special Needs Registry is a voluntary program for those people in Ascension Parish who may need specific disability-related assistance and/or accommodation in the event of a major disaster. Specific accommodations and assistance needs may include communicating through alternative means, requiring specialized paratransit services, life sustaining medications or equipment, etc.

Remember, the first line of defense against a disaster is personal preparedness. The Medical Special Needs Registry is not a guarantee of specific assistance during an emergency.

Residents that receive medical care through a home health or a hospice agency are encouraged to coordinate with the agency if assistance is needed in emergency situations.
